CD49c / Integrin alpha 3 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein proteolytically cleaved into two disulfide linked chains. It noncovalently associates with CD29 (integrin beta 1) to form the VLA-3 complex, an adhesion receptor for extracellular matrix components (fibronectin, laminin 1, laminin 5, entactin, and collagen). It is expressed on adherent cells, mainly on fibroblasts, epithelial cells and endothelial cells.
Flow cytometry: The reagent is designed for analysis of human blood cells using 10 μl reagent / 100 μl of whole blood or 106 cells in a suspension. The content of a vial (1 ml) is sufficient for 100 tests.
For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic/therapeutics procedures.
Subcellular location: | Cell membrane, Cell membrane, Cell projection, Cell projection |
Post transnational modification: | Isoform 1, but not isoform 2, is phosphorylated on serine residues. Phosphorylation increases after phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate stimulation. |
Tissue Specificity: | Isoform 1 is widely expressed. Isoform 2 is expressed in brain and heart. In brain, both isoforms are exclusively expressed on vascular smooth muscle cells, whereas in heart isoform 1 is strongly expressed on vascular smooth muscle cells, isoform 2 is detected only on endothelial vein cells. |
