A cell line is a permanent in vitro culture of a certain cell type that can continue to create new cells as long as they are given a fresh medium on which to develop. In cellular and molecular biology research, creating a cell line is a very common technique. As compared to standard cell lines, reporter-labeled cell lines, or simply reporter cell lines, provide several uses. Reporter cell lines are existing cell lines to which reporter genes are added to them, enabling the monitoring and observation of protein expression. A vector containing the reporter gene and the desired gene promoter is  transfected into a cell line. Green fluorescent protein (GFP), Red fluorescent protein (RFP), Luciferase, Secreted Alkaline Phosphatase (SEAP), and other regularly used reporter genes are visually detectable in life science and biotechnology research.
