MW :85.6kD.
Recombinant Human Osteoblast Specific Factor is produced by our Mammalian expression system and the target gene encoding Asn22-Gln836 is expressed with a 6His tag at the C-terminus. Periostin is a secreted, homodimeric protein that belongs to the periostin family of the FAS1 superfamily of molecules. It is a TGF-beta inducible molecule that serves as both an adhesion molecule and tumor suppressor. It is synthesized by smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts and osteoblasts, as well as in the periosteum and periodontal ligament.

Subcellular location: | Golgi apparatus, Secreted, Secreted |
Post transnational modification: | Gamma-carboxylation is controversial. Gamma-carboxyglutamated; gamma-carboxyglutamate residues are formed by vitamin K dependent carboxylation; this may be required for calcium binding (PubMed:18450759). According to a more recent report, does not contain vitamin K-dependent gamma-carboxyglutamate residues (PubMed:26273833). |
Tissue Specificity: | Widely expressed with highest levels in aorta, stomach, lower gastrointestinal tract, placenta, uterus, thyroid tissue and breast. Up-regulated in epithelial ovarian tumors. Not expressed in normal ovaries. Also highly expressed at the tumor periphery of lung carcinoma tissue but not within the tumor. Overexpressed in breast cancers. |
