HMGB3 (High Mobility Group-Box 3) belongs to the high mobility group box (HMG-box) subfamily. It has 99% homology with HMGB1 and HMGB2. This subfamily has a HMG-box, so it can regulate gene transcription by participating with formation of enhancesomes. The HMG-box subfamily also plays an important role in DNA replication, transcription, recombination and repair, etc. HMGB3 has been reported to have high expression in embryos and weak expression in adult tissues. HMGB3 is important in keeping the balance between self-renewal and differentiation status in mouse hematopoietic stem cells.

Western blot analysis: 2-4 µg/ml

Subcellular location: Nucleus, Chromosome, Cytoplasm
Post transnational modification: Reduction/oxidation of cysteine residues Cys-23, Cys-45 and Cys-104 and a possible intramolecular disulfide bond involving Cys-23 and Cys-45 give rise to different redox forms with specific functional activities in various cellular compartments: 1- fully reduced HMGB3 (HMGB3C23hC45hC104h), 2- disulfide HMGB3 (HMGB3C23-C45C104h) and 3- sulfonyl HMGB3 (HMGB3C23soC45soC104so).
Tissue Specificity: Expressed predominantly in placenta.
