GLI1 or Zinc finger protein GLI1 is a member of the Kruppel family of zinc finger proteins and acts as a transcriptional activator of the sonic hedgehog signal transduction cascade. GLI1 plays important role in developmental processes and also regulates stem cell proliferation. GLI1 has three isoforms (117, 113 and 104 kDa). GLI1 is associated in diseases like necrobiosis lipoidica and ameloblastoma. GLI1 is mainly expressed in testis, myometrium and fallopian tube.
Western blot analysis: 2-4 µg/ml

Subcellular location: | Cytoplasm, Nucleus |
Post transnational modification: | Acetylation at Lys-518 down-regulates transcriptional activity. Deacetylated by HDAC1. |
Tissue Specificity: | Detected in testis (at protein level) (PubMed:2105456). Testis, myometrium and fallopian tube. Also expressed in the brain with highest expression in the cerebellum, optic nerve and olfactory tract (PubMed:19878745). Isoform 1 is detected in brain, spleen, pancreas, liver, kidney and placenta; isoform 2 is not detectable in these tissues (PubMed:19706761). |
