Immunogen Information : Partially purified inhibitor of actin polymerization(IAP) protein from turkey gizzard smooth muscle.

The heat-shock proteins(HSPs) belong to a larger group of polypeptides, the stress proteins, that are induced in various combinations in response to environmental challenges and developmental transitions. Heat-shock 27-kD protein1also knows as HSPB. Synthesis of the small(27-kD) HSP has been shown to be correlated with the acquisition of thermotolerance. HSP27 gene is mapped to 7q11.23. Mutant small heat-shock protein 27 causes axonal Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and distal hereditary motor neuropathy. Heat shock protein 27 prevents cellular polyglutamine toxicity and suppresses the increase of reactive oxygen species caused by huntingtin.

Western blot : 0.5-2μg/ml; Immunohistochemistry(Paraffin-embedded Section) : 1-2μg/ml; Immunohistochemistry(Frozen Section) : 1-2μg/ml; Immunocytochemistry : 1μg/ml

Subcellular location: Cytoplasm, Nucleus, Cytoplasm
Post transnational modification: Phosphorylated upon exposure to protein kinase C activators and heat shock. Phosphorylation by MAPKAPK2 and MAPKAPK3 in response to stress dissociates HSPB1 from large small heat-shock protein (sHsps) oligomers and impairs its chaperone activity and ability to protect against oxidative stress effectively. Phosphorylation by MAPKAPK5 in response to PKA stimulation induces F-actin rearrangement.
Tissue Specificity: Expressed in a variety of tissues. High levels in lung, adrenal, xiphoid, adipose tissue, heart and striated and smooth muscle, lower levels in the CNS. Adult levels are much higher in the slow-twitch soleus muscle than in the fast-twitch rectus femoris and extensor digitorum muscles.
